Pressure Management in Yoga

In this two-hour online course we will delve into mechanics of breathing and pelvic health as it relates to pressure management in yoga. Content will include anatomy, movement screening, as well as practice modifications and drills for pelvic-health related diagnoses such as urinary leakage, diastasis recti, pelvic pain, and pelvic organ prolapse. 

What's Included

Anatomy of the Trunk

Learn about the anatomy of the trunk, specifically breath and pelvic floor related structures and the role they play in pressure management. 

Movement Screening

Understand the typical causes of pelvic dysfunction that lead to pressure mismanagement. Learn how to perform a movement screening and tips to support clients on the mat.

Pressure Management Lab

Explore exercises you can do on the mat to create more freedom in the trunk for a stabile core and coordinated breathwork. Additionally, investigate ways to apply those drills in a LYT Reset.

Movement Application

Take the knowledge from the lecture and drills from the lab onto a mat and move slowly and with purpose to put these principles into practice.

Meet Ashley Newton

 

Dr. Ashley Newton is a pelvic health and lymphedema physical therapist in Princeton, NJ. Ashley opened a private pelvic physical therapy clinic with Activcore Physical Therapy in 2021 with the goal of creating a safe, inclusive space where people can learn and heal. 

 

Ashley is passionate about the integration of the science of movement with the health of the nervous system. In her practice, she tailors treatments to clients based on improving the health of the physical and emotional body and works to guide them toward long term solutions befitting their lifestyles. 

 

Integration of manual treatments with movement and nervous system work is at the heart of how Ashley approaches her practice as a physical therapist. Being a yoga instructor taught in the LYT method for over a decade as well as a Low Pressure Fitness Certified Trainer have facilitated creativity in how she treats as well as mentors new physical therapists. 

 

Ashley has used her education and expertise to foster health literacy at the community level. Ashley is passionate about community education and hosts multiple in person events throughout the year in addition to being an educator for the LYT Method and Low Pressure Fitness.
