Sequencing Labs

Welcome to Sequencing Lab 101!  This is an in-depth dissection of LYT class creation and progression methodology.   In this first module, we will be breaking down Lara’s 10 Core LYT flows into their most basic parts of kinesiology and movement patterns, exploring the different planes of motion of the body and how they relate to flow choreography, introducing how themes are created and woven throughout the practice, and begin a discussion on playlist creation, class timing, and sequence-to-stream progression.  At the end of this introductory course, you will be able to:

• Identify the 3 planes of motion in which the body moves.
• Identify in which plane of motion a specific yoga asana is positioned. 
• Identify simple asana transitions and differentiate them from complex asana transitions based on their movement between planes.
• Understand the basics of sequencing, including theory behind the sequences and the stream and how to progress a class from beginning to end.
• Identify movement patterns in terms of mobility and stability and how they relate to their location within the class choreography.
• Create a list of theme ideas for your own class creations based on things in your daily life.
• Understand the basic timing of a LYT class and how to create a true LYT Experience based on this framework, your playlists, and your own voice.

Welcome to Sequencing Lab 201!  So now that you have a good understanding of the different planes of motion of the body and how they relate to kinesiology, the basics of sequencing a LYT flow, and how the LYT experience can make or break a class, you’re ready to begin creating your own flows!  The goal of this course is to break down sequencing into a fail-proof, reproducible system for you as you embark on your journey as a LYT teacher. At the end, you will be able to:

• Determine what type of flow to create based on the population you’re teaching.
• Properly sequence a flow in a way that makes sense physiologically in the body and brain.
• Create a Beginner LYT level flow for the general population within the constructs of LYT framework.
• Create an Advanced Beginner LYT level flow for the population who has been coming to you/your studio and is ready to take that next step towards multi-planar and functional movement sequencing.
• Create a Level 1 LYT flow for either your regular yogi who is new to LYT or your client who is ready to move up from Advanced Beginner.
• You will receive three new LYT flows that you will have a thorough understanding of and be able to add to your LYT repertoire. 
• Questions can be answered on the  monthly Teacher Community zoom.

COURSE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Complete all the coursework.
• Submit a video of you teaching a 60-minute original flow for feedback by Kristin Williams. This flow may be either a Beginner, Advanced Beginner, or Level 1 class.
• Upon completion of all requirements, you will receive a Sequencing Lab 201 certificate with eligibility for 15 hours of continuing education credits through Yoga Alliance and the LYT certification program.
• Course is self paced.

Welcome to Sequencing Lab 301!  By now, you have successfully created your own LYT flow at the Beginner, Advanced Beginner, or Level 1 level.  You should feel relatively comfortable with how the process works at the most basic level and what it takes to properly sequence asanas together with a plan and an intention set at the start.  In this third and final portion of the Sequencing Lab Series, you will learn how to create and teach Level 2 and Level 3 flows and finally, how to teach and incorporate more advanced poses in these higher level classes.  You will follow the same methodology as Sequencing Labs 101 & 201, but learn to broaden your horizons to the more advanced level yoga population.  

At Lara’s original home studio in Princeton, she originally had 3 just types of classes that straddled the line between levels.  Smooth was Level 1-2 (no plyometric and handstand optional), Move was Level 2-3 (plyometrics and handstands offered more regularly), and Groove was Level 3 (plyometrics, more time on the hands, and the teacher took the class along with the students, as opposed to walking around the room strictly teaching).  For the purposes of our Sequencing Lab Modules, I created the Level 1 to be a Basic Smooth.  Level 2 will straddle the line between a Smooth and Move.  Level 3 will be Groove. At the end, you will be able to:

• Create a Level 2 level flow for the Intermediate LYT population, who are ready for the addition of optional handstands and plyometrics in their practice.
• Create a Level 3 level flow for the Advanced LYT population, who are ready to practice independent of adjustments and alongside the teacher.
• Learn how to change a flow just slightly to adjust the theme or level.
• Learn how to do and teach a variety of advanced arm and leg balance poses that can be added to your Level 2 and 3 flows at your own discretion at this higher level of practice.
• You will receive three new LYT flows that you will have a thorough understanding of and be able to add to your LYT repertoire. 
• Questions will be answered via the monthly Teacher Community zoom.
